Get your business organized & in the fast lane with my TOP secrets to marketing your business FASTER & the tools to help you stay on track!
Part entrepreneur, part homeschooling Mom of 5, & part photographer. You could say that I know a thing or two about wearing multiple hats. My mission is simple: to show you how to make $$$ online without sacrificing all of your precious time.
That would be me! I’m all about it!
When I first became a Mom, my husband and I mutually decided that being a stay-at-home-Mom was our top priority when it came to raising our kids, and a career would be secondary (IF AT ALL).
We both passionately agreed that we wanted to be the primary caregivers and educators of our children, but we knew this would also bring financial hardship to our little family.
For years, we struggled to make ends meet and put food on the table. I couldn’t even go to Target and buy more than $20 worth of toddler snacks without risking an overdraft on our accounts.
It was that bad.
But, by the grace of God, and a few ambitious ideas that flooded into this little head of mine, I came up with a way to end our stretch of poverty without having to go back to work.
I first started my own photography business (more of a glorified hobby at that time but soon enough became a lucrative business) and then went on to create my own e-commerce shop for photographers.
I sold (and still do to this day) digital products like e-courses, guides, and photo editing filters.
It was a way to redefine myself as a person, contribute to our finances, and feed my creative side without needing to leave my babies with someone else.
But with this new financial freedom also surfaced a lot of stress, hardship, and juggling acts between work and life.
Well, here’s my take. I’ve only been doing this for 11 years with 3 businesses now, but this has been my overall experience with kids of all ages and stages.
You might find me sharing work/life balance here A LOT – and while I do believe it’s attainable to an extent, taking on two major roles (your children’s caregiver and your business) simultaneously is a lot of work.
I am constantly being bounced around from one task to another and not really having a chance to stay put to get anything done.
Without laying out a few hard rules in my life, I definitely know that working from home would be a different game – a losing one.
While it may be true that I am surrounded by human beings all day long, the stay-at-home Mompreneur gig can get very lonely very quick.
Not having other Moms who truly “get it” and what it takes to run a business and the household at the same time can make you feel like an alien in our own life.
And it’s no fault of theirs, it’s just a lifestyle that no one can imagine until they are put in it.
Even full time working Moms have a different scenario and one I cannot relate with – so it’s just plain tough to relate to other Moms who are in a different realm altogether.
I cannot even begin to tell you how many times I have thought about throwing in the towel (to my business and motherhood).
Juggling the two is a constant battle, but then add in a few road bumps, sick kids, life dilemmas, tricky clients, or a technical issue that’s near impossible to fix, then you have a grand recipe for calling it quits.
What I like to do in these instances is take a deep breath, walk away (for an hour or a few days depending on the situation), and remind myself WHY I do what I do.
If I cannot find a good enough answer to that question, then it’s time to take a deeper look at the issues at hand and come up with a strategy to fix it or eliminate it completely.
Giving up is never an option to me, but letting go of something that doesn’t bring me joy is completely acceptable.
Being a Mom is top priority for me, no questions about it.
At the end of the day, if all I have done is kept the kids alive, fed, and happy, then I have done my job.
But, being able to contribute to our family in other ways is extra rewarding.
Knowing that I can raise my kids AND pay the mortgage each month makes me feel like the Super Mom that I’m actually not.
And not having to worry about making ends meet or scraping up enough cash to buy healthy choices at the grocery each week is an extra blessing I could never take for granted.
Tears shed, frustrations met, and struggles that only a Mom with a business can relate to.
But it can also can be followed by random dance parties, joyous celebrations (when something goes right), and ice cream socials in honor of a triumphant day.
We get so much more flexibility with our budget and every day life freedoms because I choose to stay at home and run a business.
But at the end of the day, I wouldn’t change it for the world!
Then I want you to know that you’re far from alone.
I struggled for a long time to manage my time between my Mom duties and making strides in my business. And some days, there’s just no balance!
So you should know: it’s not you. You CAN do this. It’s just insanely hard.
The one thing that has really helped me balance this lifestyle has been creating a work schedule that fits around my life as a Mom.
